What is Infrastructure?

Simply put, it's the physical backbone of a community. It efficiently moves people and goods and gets them to where they need to be; provides safe drinking water; helps keep the air and water clean; and offers public facilities for recreation, sports and culture. Infrastructure is all around you: roads, sidewalks, public transportation systems, water treatment plants, museums and galleries, sports facilities, parks and trails, just to name a few.

If you drank a glass of water, took a bus, visited a community centre or park, or went for a walk or drive today, then odds are Infrastructure Canada played a role.

Infrastructure Canada is a leader in infrastructure development and planning and a key funding partner, helping your provincial/territorial and municipal governments build and improve the modern public infrastructure that you need and use.
