Canadians living in rural communities have unique needs. Travel on improved roads and bridges, cleaner drinking water, affordable housing, and faster, more reliable Internet service can make a big difference in the quality of life of rural Canadians. The Government of Canada is making significant investments through the Investing in Canada plan to renew public infrastructure, which can attract new talent and investment, create new jobs and business opportunities to ensure that rural Canada continues to thrive.
However, we can do more. That is why the Honourable Bernadette Jordan, Canada's newly-appointed Minister of Rural Economic Development, is travelling across the country to meet with Canadians living in rural communities.
At each stop, Minister Jordan is engaging with families, workers, and community and business leaders to discuss the concerns and priorities of rural communities, while celebrating their success. The goal is to make the real-life experiences of rural Canadians central to the development of a strategy that supports rural economic development, which is a priority for the Government of Canada.
