Age as a Percentage of Useful Life of Core Public Infrastructure (CPI)

Figure 2 is a graph based on Statistics Canada data.  The graph shows the average age of core public infrastructure and the age as a percentage of useful l life in Canada from 1961 to 2012.

The average age of core public infrastructure in Canada peaked in 2000 to 2003 at 16.9 years and has rapidly declined to 14.3 years in 2012 (forecasted) as a result of significant levels of infrastructure investments by all levels of government over the last ten years.

In addition, the graph shows the average age as a percentage of useful life of Canada's core public infrastructure peaked in 2000 to 2003 at 65 per cent. Between 2003 and 2012, this percentage fell to 53 per cent, including a drop of more than 7 per cent between 2008 and 2012.
