Fredericton residents to benefit from Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge refurbishment
On October 27th, government representatives announced over $1.3 million in funding to refurbish the iconic Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge. The modernization project will ensure the safety and viability of the bridge in addition to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle and driving local economic activity by attracting tourists for decades to come.
Every New Brunswick community to benefit from federal Gas Tax Fund transfer
Modern and up-to-date community infrastructure helps connect people to jobs and provides access to better community services, attracts new businesses and creates economic growth.
This month, the Government of Canada delivered the first of two annual $22 million federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) installments to New Brunswick. In total, the province will be provided with over $45 million this year through the fund. From that, over $35.8 million will be distributed to local governments on a per capita basis while the rest will be allocated in unincorporated areas. The funding, which flows through the provincial government, is now available to support community infrastructure projects.
